Silkscreen Your Way Through Cinco de Mayo

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

For those of you who are over wearing a Mexican sombrero, a fake mustache and shooting squirt guns full of Tequila this Cinco de Mayo, let your creative juices flow at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art’s Craft Bar with Etsy Labs. Every first Thursday of the month the Etsy hosts a night aimed to connect the crafting community in San Francisco. This coincides with the museums educational and curatorial mission of creating a dynamic collective crafting environment.

Tonight, learn to silkscreen using iconic Corita imagery from the 1960’s. The cost is just $5 for admission and advice from experts in the craft. You will learn to screen-print on paper to create posters Corita-style. Paper will be provided, but remember to bring your own T-shirts, bags or other printable clothing item, if you want to transfer your prints to something you will actually wear. You can also buy T-shirts and tote-bags there for an additional $5 each.

The event gets even more enticing with $1 beers provided by Trumer Pils, and a live music performance by Coconut – a mellow band that may be a bit more soothing than the hundreds of Mariachi bands that will be bombarding the city today.
