The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Imagine the sun peeking in through giant stained-glass windows as you lie on your back on the floor of the biggest Cathedral in San Francisco – not praying, but practicing yoga. Sounds crazy, right? Nope – it’s totally normal in this city. Nearly 100 people gather every Tuesday at Grace Cathedral for Yoga on the Labyrinth to bend their bodies in unison under the instruction of the amazing Darren Main. I don’t know what it is about Darren, but his touch is like that of an angel when he corrects your postures and his soothing voice washes away all outside thoughts until your mind goes completely blank. Every Tuesday night at 6:15, Darren teaches a gentle yoga class together with a musical guest. The musicians vary from anything from chanting to playing harps, crystal bowls and dijdjeridus. Although yoga was developed in ancient India, people of all faiths have found that this body-centered meditation is a great way to improve health, quiet the mind, open the heart and deepen one’s spirituality. The class inside Grace Cathedral offers a unique opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to practice yoga in a beautiful setting. Trust me, it’s addictive. Donations are welcome, but Darren loves broke-asses too – and encourages you to come even if you can’t afford to pay. In other words, “Namaste…”

Yoga on the Labyrinth at Grace Cathedral Every Tuesday, 6:15 pm 1100 California Street [Nob Hill] http://www.labyrinthyoga.com
