The Broke Ass Secret of Schroeder’s German Restaurant
With the many upcoming sure to be drunken festivities of Oktoberfest, I thought Schroeder’s German Restaurant a fitting topic.
Schroeder’s is quite the authentic German beer hall and restaurant. This place has everything from traditional German dishes for lunch and dinner to a variety of Polka bands which play from time to time (including every Friday during the month of October). While the standard food and drink offered here can be a bit pricey, they do cater to those of us who only have a few bucks in our pockets.
During happy hour at Schroeder’s, between 4:00p.m. – 6:00p.m., a table will be set up near the entrance. On that table is a veritable cornucopia of broke ass goodness – FREE meatballs, fries, and sliced sourdough (if memory serves me correctly). You can easily enjoy FREE plates and plates of the aforementioned goodies and wash it down with a beer, the cheapest of which is around four bucks.
If your budget is tight and you are in the mood for some meatballs and garlic fries, Schroeder’s in the Financial District is a place you should check out.
