Badass Beer Tasting at The Jug Shop

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

When I was invited to spend Friday evening at “The Jug Shop” two images came to my mind.  Either I was headed to a sweet backalley moonshine hoedown or some strip club owner decided on the least enticing name in the history of skin bars.  Much to my chagrin The Jug Shop was neither of those things.  the place actually turned out to be sort of like BevMo’s cool older brother.  A liquor store that carries all sorts of wine and spirits that only the cool kids have heard of, plus the staples that will get you by in your time of need, or when that bank balance sinks into the single digits.

On top of the stellar spirits collection The Jug Shop hosts beer and wine tasting events,  highlighting all of the coolest local producers and for the low price of twelve bucks.  In fact this past Friday I was able to sample nine different beers from local Drake’s Brewery for less than a mixed drink in the marina.  Given that The Jug Shop is nestled nicely on the border between Nob and Russian hill the place serves as a perfect option to start off a night of heavy drinking or a new fun way to spend your happy hour before heading home for a laid back Friday.

Make sure to check out The Jug Shop’s website for a list of upcoming tastings and events.

Hugh was born in Boston, but managed to escape to the Bay Area before acquiring that ridiculous accent. Growing up in Marin, Hugh joined the throngs of suburbanites that dream of being rock stars and movie gods only to end up in a well appointed cubicle. Now Hugh lives in San Francisco and casually ignores his environmental studies degree, choosing to write comedy and eat burritos instead.
