FREE This Weekend: Pongtopia at The World Financial Center

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Pongtopia, now this is an event so powerful it couldn’t be limited to just one day. From Thursday, November 3rd-Saturday, November 5th be prepared for an onslaught of table tennis at the World Financial Center.

On Thursday we begin with the Expo & Open Play from 12-2pm. The Main Court will feature the pros facing off against one another for all to see. Of course, you amateurs out there can square off at the Palm Courts where experts will be around to give you some tips and/or lessons. Oh, yeah and Judah Friedlander of 30 Rock will be there too. Thursday ends with a Corporate Challenge for Charity where “corporate teams will battle it out for a good cause —and a trophy!” During the Corporate Challenge, five custom designed table-tennis tables painted by prominent graffiti artists Billi Kid, Cope2, Cern, Joe Iurato, and Shiro will be auctioned off.

Friday will once again have the Expo & Open Play from 12-2pm. It will also host SPIN Galactic’s Open Tournaments: The Brookfield Cup-NYC Amateur Competition. Here, New York’s greatest local ping-pong gladiators will battle it out from 6-10pm for a cash prize.

On Saturday, the final day of Pongtopia, the Expo & Open Play will be extended from 12-5pm with Shake Shack handing out complimentary cups of vanilla or pumpkin flavored frozen custard.  If you’re pooped out from the Expo & Open Play, SPIN Galactic’s Downtown Throwdown will be going down simultaneously. Here the table-tennis titans of New York will hold their weekly tournament, exclusively for one day only.

Hand painted paddles from various artists will also be on sale for a steep price of $250. They’ll be on display at the Winter Garden throughout Pongtopia with all proceeds going to Operation Design. For more info on Pongtopia head over here.

A Broke-Ass Mom Buys Used

Enrique Grijalva - Mr. Minimum Wage

Enrique Grijalva - Mr. Minimum Wage

My father came, my mother saw...and I conquered. I encourage children to do drugs, I buy alcohol for teenagers, and I drink beer with the homeless. In my spare time, I attend art galleries for the FREE booze while rubbing elbows with modish elephants. I also hammer six-inch nails into small penises. Stuart knighted me as Broke-Ass King of New York. You've been warned.
