FREE Photo Journey through San Francisco…

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

San Francisco is home.

I wasn’t born here in the sense of being a baby crying and puking with no idea where I was (that was a few Friday nights ago…), and I wasn’t a kid here, wandering the streets like a playground with wide eyes, my bike and an indescribable sense of joy (that was earlier today).

San Francisco is home in the sense that I found the kind of spirit here that made me feel at home. It feels right. I write poems and novels about this city. I give people my address with the confidence that I’ll still be here when they mail me a package.

That’s the kind of home that Carte Blanche’s 1 year anniversary exhibit, Call Me Home, is about. There are 5 photographers, all transplants who have come to call San Francisco home, with their photographs hanging on the walls of a gallery that itself is a bit of a newcomer to the space it calls home.

In their words:

“On November 25th 2011, Carte Blanche opened its doors in the city where anything is possible… After one year of multicultural discoveries and international inspiration, Carte Blanche is happy to culminate with a splash of local talent.”

Local talent indeed. You’ll get to see work from Kirk Crippens, Alan W George, Esmerelda Ruiz, Charity Vargas & Winni Wintermeyer.

In the holiday season when we all end up visiting or at least thinking about what was once home, take some time this Friday and wander through an oasis of images from five photographers who, like you, now call this fine city home.
