Mission Chinese Chef Exquisitely Burns Interview Request from Ivanka Trump’s Website

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

If you haven’t eaten at Mission Chinese Food in SF or NYC you’re missing out.  The spices and ingredients they blend are nothing short of incredible.   They also specialize in making spicy dishes that will light your mouth on fire in ways you didn’t know were possible.  Which is what Executive Chef Angela Dimayuga did to a writer who asked to interview her for IvankaTrump.com, under the guise that it was a piece about “strong, female, entrepreneurs”.

As it turns out asking a bad-ass, queer, and socially conscious Bay Area native for an interview on a Trump branded website was a poorly conceived plan.  Dimayuga posted the writer’s request on her instagram page and started on a thoughtful response with her friend Shakirah Simley (manager of Bi-Rite grocery and activist at nourishresist.org). Here is a screen shot of the interview request and the delicious response that followed:

Angela & Shakirah’s Priceless Response:

Hi Adi,

Thank you for thinking of me. I’m glad you are a fan of my work so much that you want to provide more visibility for my career to inspire “other working women.” However, I’m for women who actually empower other women.

I don’t believe that IvankaTrump.com is truly “a non-political platform of empowerment for [women]”. So long as the name Trump is involved, it is political and frankly, an option for the IvankaTrump.com business to make a profit.

I don’t see anything empowering about defunding Planned Parenthood, barring asylum from women refugees, rolling back safeguards for equal pay, and treating POC/LGBT and the communities that support these groups like second class citizens.

As a queer person of color and daughter of immigrant parents I am not interested in being profiled as an aspirational figure for those that support a brand and a President that slyly disparages female empowerment. Sharing my story with a brand and family that silences our same voices is futile.

Thank you for the consideration.

And that folks, is what you get when you work for a Trump brand and you think that an authentically strong and empowered woman will actually forget her principles and sellout like you.  Angela Dimayuga, we love your food, and now we just love you!

If you also wish to avoid enriching the Trump family while they are holding public office (or indefinitely) there is a browser extension that warns you before you purchase any products online that enrich the Trump empire.  Check it out here.
