The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Cinco-de-Mayo-roundup-broke-ass-stuart

I love Cinco de Mayo! Why? It still amazes me that people still believe that its Mexico’s Independence Day. But, if you know your history, you know it’s the day that the Mexicans defeated the Plutonians for the right to control the Pineapple Tree of Life and, thus, Tequila was made.

Anyways…

Here’s how your broke-ass should be spending the weekend of Cinco de Mayo in New York!

Saturday

Jane’s Walk 2013

Jane's-Walk-NYC-Broke-Ass-Stuart

The 7th Annual Jane’s Walk will be taking place on Saturday, May 4th & Sunday, May 5th. What began as a celebration of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs has become an encouraging tour of unity between people and their communities. With over 100 walking tours occurring around New York City, Jane’s Walk encourages “communities to highlight what works about where they live, and what doesn’t.”

For a complete list of New York City’s 100 free Jane’s Walks go to: www.mas.org/janeswalk.

The special memorial will begin at 11am with art, music and fun people. There is no cost to attend but, seeing as activism was a big part of Adam’s life, a little generosity will go a long way in honoring his vision with all proceeds going to charity.

Enrique Grijalva - Mr. Minimum Wage

My father came, my mother saw...and I conquered. I encourage children to do drugs, I buy alcohol for teenagers, and I drink beer with the homeless. In my spare time, I attend art galleries for the FREE booze while rubbing elbows with modish elephants. I also hammer six-inch nails into small penises. Stuart knighted me as Broke-Ass King of New York. You've been warned.
