Elon Musk will never be likable. It doesn’t matter how many things he tries to do, no matter how much money he has or how many social media sites he buys, there’s something about him that is inherently insufferable.

In an ostentatious display of ego and self-promotion, Elon Musk, the self-proclaimed tech guru and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, recently made headlines when he decided to slap a giant ‘X’ on the Twitter building in San Francisco. As if that weren’t enough, he followed up with a tweet declaring that he’s never leaving the city, further adding fuel to the fire of his inflated sense of importance. The stunt has been met with ridicule and criticism, with many questioning the motives behind his attention-seeking antics.

The gigantic ‘X’ emblazoned on the Twitter building seems to be nothing more than a display of Musk’s never-ending desire for attention and media coverage. His incessant need to remind the world of his presence only serves to highlight his insatiable appetite for fame.

The only problem with Elon’s insistence on staying in San Francisco is that no one really wants him to be there. No one really gives a shit about where Twitter is located. Maybe San Francisco does because it needs that delicious tax revenue, but no one who lives in or around San Francisco wants Elon Musk or his attention seeking bullshit anywhere in the city.

This might sound weird, but the more that Elon Musk, one of the world’s richest men, does this, the more I strangely feel bad for him.

If anyone proves that wealth is meaningless, it’s Elon Musk. All the money in the world, and he’s still not funny or cool in any real way. And the worst part is that he wants to be. The way Donald Trump symbolizes everything wrong with New York City, Elon Musk is everything wrong with the Bay Area. He’s a tech guy who despite not needing to be in San Francisco, insists on it.

If Elon Musk wants to be liked, which he clearly does, I have some a tip for him.

Shut the fuck up and use your money to do things that would actually help San Francisco. Could you imagine how much further housing initiatives would get if Elon Musk backed them? The man has a army of trolls who essentially regurgitate any talking points he vomits into their mouths. This could be used for good, but it probably won’t be.

Elon Musk doesn’t love or care about San Francisco. Elon Musk is a clout demon. As long as San Francisco is constantly in the news, he knows he can increase his media coverage. And it’s kind of sad. When I look at Elon Musk, I don’t see a bulletproof billionaire, I see a rich kid with all of the latest toys, but no one to play with.

And he will leave San Francisco, even if Twitter doesn’t because the media will eventually find somewhere else to incessantly talk about, and Elon will try to sneak his way into that conversation. It’s just his nature.
