Feminists to Auction Off Bachelors for Planned Parenthood
Female comedians are selling off live male bachelors at a Valentine’s weekend comedy event that will have you snort-laughing while raising money for Planned Parenthood. Enter the Matriarchy, A Valentine’s Day Celebration provides anti-patriarchal Valentine’s hilarity with SF’s funniest female comedians featuring Kate Willett and Rachel Lark, and auctioning off hunky feminist bachelors this Friday, February 12 at The Convent.

“The traditional Valentine’s Day celebration is fun, but it also historically has kind of centered on the patriarchal power trip of men giving women things in exchange for sex, which is creepy,” comedian and co-organizer Kate Willett told BrokeAssStuart.com. “Dating culture can be very objectifying for women, so we wanted to turn that on it’s head and objectify men for a second. But not on the basis of anything traditional like looks or money. We wanted to objectify men on their feminism.”

“We’re thrilled to include a charity auction for Planned Parenthood this year,” said co-headliner Rachel Lark, the filthy ukelele chanteuse whose live shows we’ve long adored. All Eligible Feminist Bachelor Auction funds raised will go to directly to Planned Parenthood.
Feminist Bachelor Auction emcee duties will be handled by comedian Allison Mick, with live sets from Kristee Ono and Samantha Gilweit in addition to Ms.’s Willett and Lark. “Their work is a great combination of hilarious and political, so that’s why we chose them for the show,” Kate Willett said.
The Convent (660 Oak, at Fillmore) is an actual former nun’s convent. Great place for a comedy show, ammirite?!? The Convent opened in 1934 to house nuns, became a women’s shelter in the 1980s, and is now one of San Francisco’s last remaining art collectives. “There’s a history of female advocacy in The Convent, which is why it’s a cool place to do our event,” Ms. Willett said. “And it’s just a really beautiful underground space.”
