You don’t have to visit AT&T park anymore if you want garlic fries. McDonald’s released their garlic fries onto four locations last year, all of which were in San Jose or Santa Clara. McDonald’s has finally released its Gilroy Garlic fries into 240 SF Bay Area (only) locations. Sorry, people anywhere outside of the bay. McDonald’s is not a company that shies away from innovations all the while still trying to retain their traditional roots.

If you’ve ever worked in a mid-level restaurant chain that uses a broadliner to attain its ingredients (and toiletries), you may be familiar with Christopher Ranch’s bags of already peeled garlic. Or, if you’re a lazy cook, you may have even purchased their chopped garlic in oil. Christopher Ranch is a fourth-generation and family-owned ranch in Gilroy, California. It’s also the ranch that is providing McDonald’s with the garlic they use for their Gilroy Garlic french fries. Now even McDonald’s can say they’re local, sustainable, seasonal. With their garlic only coming from about 80-miles south of the city. And you should try these fries because they’re “farm to fork.” The made-to-order fries boast only natural ingredients: garlic puree “mix,” olive oil, Parmesan cheese, parsley and salt.

Because technically, couldn’t everything be called “farm to fork?” Even if it’s BIG AG, it still comes from a farm. It may not be the best farm with the best practices or with animals that never see the light. But…it is a farm. This is why we should focus more on what I recently heard John Ash mention as, “ethical” ingredients, rather than trying to turn things into coin phrases to make them easier to monetize on.

You can find the fries at the following SF locations:

609 Market (bt 2nd + New Montgomery)

1100 Fillmore (bt Turk + Golden Gate)

2801 Mission @ 24th

You can find the other SF locations near you on their website
