The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

On May 12th, The SF LGBT Center on Market is having a FREE concert & workshop called “Queer Vibes”, featuring Bay Area musician Criibaby. Criibaby just came back from Austin’s SXSW and has brought her SXSW set back with her as well as an interactive instrument which casts a gorgeous light show while being played.

Criibaby is a Bay Area artist who believes that music can be gender-neutral

The event is most easily described as a “FREE performance-meets-art-for-healing-workshop session guaranteed to take you to a whole other world.” Queer people often find solace in the worlds they build- for them, by them. So when rising queer artist Criibaby thought, “What would gender-neutral music sound like?” she knew: they had to create it.

More About The Artist: Criibaby

Last year, I met the artist known as Criibaby during an event called “Qamp” where artists came together to create a full album in just three days. It was a quick hello at the time. However, when I got home, I did some research and dove pretty deep into their music.

“Jazz-influenced chords, neo-soul vibes, lo-fi aesthetics and satisfyingly ASMR-like “found sounds” style percussion with immersive drops that bring you in and hold you in a warm embrace,” the perfect description by FoF Music.

Criibaby asks, “What is more human than heartbreak?” Feelings are universal – music should be as well. Criibaby is making music more inclusive so that people can identify with the song regardless of a listener’s gender, sexual orientation, age – after all, emotion is a universal feeling. Bay Area musician and artist, Criibaby’s music is void of any binary lyrics – just beautiful music which is consciously created to be more inclusive. After all, a great song is always the one that helps someone connect with it.

Their openly queer lyrics create music that is romantic, soft, sweet and full of emotional vocals. It’s the kind of music that triggers those deep feelings of being carried away and sinking into the depths of the story being shared. Criibaby has been featured by Billboard, SXSW, Spotify’s Fresh Finds and more.

Currently a blend of all that is The Bay Area - she's a web designer at a tech-company, artist and DIY teacher.
