Online Conference ‘Reinventaissance’ Explores How To Get Events Swinging Again

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Some performers have been successful at organizing online events during the pandemic. Many of them are going to explain how they successfully organize online events at — what else? — an online event this Saturday called Reinventaissance “a one-day online conference celebrating innovative artistic and cultural innovations” featuring some of your favorite Bay Area acts and venue representatives. The event is hosted by Globally Curated, an artistic and creative event services company offering “everything from event design, visioning, marketing, execution and follow-up.”

“It’s a combination of speakers, performances, and talks,” Globally Curated founder Megs Rutigliano tells BrokeAssStuart.com. “The panels include the future or travel, visual art and fashion, and urban art spaces. There’s also going to be a panel on coirating for accessibility and diversity featuring museum curators from the San Francisco Bay Area —  the Museum of the African Diaspora and the Asian Art Museum.

Big national venues like Carnegie Hall, and local faves like the Vau de Vire Society will pop in for sessions and segments in the 8 a.,m – 3 p.m. Saturday conference.

The swinging sounds of Jazz Mafia will also be in the mix. “Adam Theis is going to feature a performance of Jazz Mafia,” Rutigliano says. “Jazz Mafia has used the pandemic to engage new audiences and to attract new fans by doing an weekly outdoor concert series live from their backyard.”

In a conversation with DJ Boenobo, he’ll explain how the pandemic taught Jazz Mafia how to rethink the live performance. “Their fan base is, in essence, broader now than only the fan base that was able to make it to the live shows,” she says.

And Mama Fou of Fou Fou Ha will turn up a few times as well. “Mama Fou is going to be a guest emcee, she’ll be interviewing the founders of HONK! Fest, which is a global marching band festival for activist street bands,” according to Rutigliano. She’ll also be in conversation with  Oakland’s Method Sampling act Ensemble Mik Nawooj, and we’ll get to see some of their new work.

Like any good conference, Reinventaissance will have a kick-ass afterparty. Hosted by virtual nightclub and variety show Full Tilt Social Club at Detroit’s Armageddon Beach Party Lounge, the afterparty will also feature SF performersPrince Xzist and Jain Dowe. Anyone ticketed to the main event can Zoom in to the afterparty.

Reinventaissance is Saturday, February 27, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. PT, on Zoom. Tickets here, $13-$50 sliding scale.
