WILLIAMSBURG SPELLING BEE

I used to clam up when it came time for spelling bees in 4th Grade.  I was, and still am, a horribly useless speller.  However, I love watching 'œbees,' and this one sounds like a heck-ve-a-lota fun!  Pete’s Candy Store’s Spelling Bee with Bobbyblue and Jenisfamous happens every other Monday in 2009.  Season 10’s finals are on Dec. 7th, so get there this Monday, Sept. 14th to start practicing.   Sign-up starts at 7pm; Bee starts at 7:30.  There’s no cover, and no criteria to join!  Other bee dates are Sept. 28, Oct. 12, Oct. 26, Nov. 9, and Nov. 23.  Algorithm anyone?

GARDEN YOGA CLASS

On Sundays, September 13th and 27th, my absolute favorite yoga teacher, Heather Lilleston, will be teaching an open Jivamukti yoga class in an outdoor garden in Williamsburg for only $10!  Get yourselves to that garden, especially if you are hung over, depressed, or exhausted, because Heather’s class will lift you up, get you moving, and connect you back with yourself.  She’s irreverent at times, inspiring, non-judgmental, and fiery.  (Oh, and she’s totally hot, if that makes any difference to you.) Bring your own mat.

p.s. Today, Saturday Sept. 12, at 4pm, Heather’s yoga class at Pure Yoga on the Upper East Side is FREE!!

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
