NYC, You Want Music, Beer, and Nudes?

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

If you like records (or like people who like records), Shakey’s Record Fair is your Mecca!  This record fair, held 4-6 times a year on weeknights, takes into consideration that Friday and Sat evenings and weekend mornings – the times when most fairs are held – are the absolute worst times for DJs to go.  You’ll find all formats (7″s / 12″s / Albums / whatever) in all types of music (punk, techno, experimental, Latin, club, rap, rock, house, jungle, reggae, etc.).  Vendors also sell stuff that relates to music.  But this is more than just a fair for buyers; it’s a full-blown party!  You’ll find drink specials, soulful live music from Kendra Morris, and DJ sets for notable record collectors, prizes from sponsors Wax Poetics, Turntable Lab, and Dubspot, and rare underground film visuals from Cine Noir Film Society.

Brooklyn vs Manhattan: An Open Question

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
