FREE Open Art Studios and Party like it’s 1986

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

While you may not able to bask in the splendor of another three-day weekend, there’s still plenty of cool stuff going on to distract you from the fact that tomorrow is another sobering Monday. If you missed the free Yeasayer show last night, shame on you, but because this is New York and everyone is broke, there’s still plenty of free entertainment to go around. Bushwick Open Studios According to Gossip Girl, (a.k.a the most historically accurate depiction of New York), there’s a huge art scene going on in Bushwick. While there certainly is a plethora of lofts, I don’t think you’ll find any track lighting or Upper East-Siders. With over 300 shows in 150 different locations, you certainly have your work cut out for you. Luckily most of these locations are close to each other and you can pick up maps and guides at most of the neighborhood coffee shops. Stick around for the closing party Sunday night to rub elbows with the more artistically gifted than you and don’t you dare board that train without scoring a taco from Los Hermanos.

BOS Closing Party Sunday,
June 6 9:00pm-12:00am
330 Melrose St, 3rd Floor,
at Knickerbocker St [Bushwick]
Bang On NYC: Party Like it’s 1986

Will the 80’s theme party ever die? Not while spandex and cocaine are still around. Even though Prince did not pen a song about this classic year, I’ll gladly party like it’s 1986 if that means I get to wear my kroakies and drink mystery punch. This party almost sounds too good to be true. Happening at some mystery space in Williamsburg, there’s promised to be two dance floors, rooftop space, not one but TWO pools and a fucking water slide. I didn’t hear any rumors about Six Flags coming to Brooklyn, so I’ll believe it when I see it. The usual mash of bands, DJ’s and fire-dancers (naturally) I’d say they’ve got something special on their hands. RSVP to get the deets on location and time.  The email is Info@BangOn-NYC.com and put “Radical” as the subject.

Laura S, left the "sixth borough" three years ago to settle in Brooklyn. After working at some daily rags, she now does writing on the side but still eats more Ramen then necessary. When she's not moving residences every 6 months, eating her way through every neighborhood, and trying every microbrew known to man, she is unsuccessfully rediscovering home economics. With her binging days behind her, she's now exploring new projects and rediscovering the city that she loves (although is still prone to sliding on her knees during a Prince karaoke set).
