Bask In the Past At Legion
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. It’s what mama always said, along with “hold doors open” and “always carry an extra sidearm.” Unfortunately, as we all strive for reinvention in this ever-swirling snafu known as life, sometimes we get a change we don’t need for the simple sake of changing. And hey, how else would we have ended up with new wave Blondie or electric Dylan? The best of us can change while still retaining some of that old charm. Such is the mentality at Legion, a former veteran’s bar gone hipster, that tries to remember its roots and say hi to its new neighbors.
I’m not trying to take a dump on the gentrification of Williamsburg. It’s a part of life as natural as tides and farts- you can’t do anything about it, so learn to live with it and try not to be too loud about it. Legion is a quiet weekday spot off the Graham L stop that has shuttered windows and neon signs, like the way the good lord intended bars to look. They have the basic staples of pool table and good tunes while also boasting a house brew for dirt cheap. While you’re less likely to find someone who was in the air force and more likely someone with the retro Air Force Ones, it’s still a good place for a chill spot that can throw down with DJs on the weekend. The times they are a-changin’ or some such thing.
