BA of the Week: Promoter KC Turner

Updated: Mar 20, 2012 17:49
The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Every week we feature a different person from the community shedding a little light on their life of brokeitude. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something about the human spirit — probably not.

Wanna be a Broke-Ass of the Week? Holler at us here and we’ll send you the questionnaire.

When I asked KC to provide a little info about himself for the intro this is what he send on:

Residing in San Francisco, CA.- KC Turner keeps busy by presenting live music throughout the San Francisco Bay Area; billing shows at venues & coffee houses, producing his own house concert series, hosting 2 open mics, representing & booking a handful of independent artists including Megan Slankard, The Welcome Matt & The Courtney Janes, helping connect people to new local talent, heading a songwriting club and strumming a few of his own songs from time to time. KC is genuine and focuses on 1 simple goal when producing his events…he showcases music that to him is above par and simply great. The goal is to establish a name, (KC Turner Presents), that people know they can trust and associate with good quality music worth taking a “risk” on.

Here is his website. Now let’s see what KC has to say about being a broke-ass:

Name: KC Turner

Age: 29

Occupation: Live Music Concert Promoter

What neighborhood do you live in?: Cole Valley

Best money saving tip: Move your car on Street Cleaning days…

What do you refuse to spend money on?: A parking permit for my own neighborhood.

Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: A car.

How’d that feel?: Felt good to have my own car…but way too adult.

Favorite cheap eat?: The sandwiches at Alpha Market in Cole Valley

Favorite dive bar: Finnegan’s Wake in Cole Valley

Best deal you’ve ever gotten: I have had beer companies offer free beer at several of my concerts in exchange for promoting their name. Now that was a good deal for everyone!

Favorite free thing to do?: Take my dog to Crissy Field.

If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: The Red Vic movie house that closed down on Haight Street…Then attempt to make it a music venue!

Despite not having money, do you still love your life?: No…ha ha, just kidding, I LOVE my life.

Do you own my book?: No, does it cost money?

Best hangover cure: More beer.

Are you a hipster: I wish I were…but sadly, I am not.
