This Week Sucks, and I’m So Sorry

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Hey.

Are you ok? Shitty week, right. To say the least.

Are you feeling anxious? Did you have a friend at the Boston Marathon? Perhaps, a friend of a friend is faculty or a student at MIT? Did you know someone who knows someone who was a victim of the Newtown Massacre, (an unspeakable tragedy that will remain a dark, dark, dark spot on the cloth of humanity, forever and always) who is heartbroken over the recent failure of the United States Senate to pass the Gun bill? (And what sane person wouldn’t be?) Are you heartbroken about our government, about gun control, about religious extremism and how detrimental it is to our daily state-of-mind and general outlook on life?

I just wanted to tell you, everything will be OK. I promise. I’m so sorry that these people take advantage of humanity’s kindness and vulnerability, to do such genuinely awful and heartbreaking things. I’m sorry if it makes you anxious. I wish I could take everything that happened this week and throw it off a cliff, and tell you I will never, ever let them hurt you, or anyone you may be positively affiliated with, ever again. I wish I could hold your hand, and we could all take a Xanax and watch the new Lil Bub documentary, and eat some chocolate ice-cream, instead of crying about the world and the ways things are. I know that I can’t, but I wish that I could.

This is me, thinking about ice cream and Lil Bub and how rad you are!

I know it’s really fucking rough today. Especially for you lovely people of Boston, who keep on suffering, and suffering, on lock-down in your homes. I’m also not trying to make light of every horrible, pressing, horrific situation, happening in the rest of the world. This isn’t a note about politics, or who has failed whom, or what the government should or shouldn’t be doing (minus The Senate this week, because God fucking damn it); this is a note to tell you I care about you, and I want to make you smile, and when times are insane like this, look for strength any place you can find it. I’m talking about family, friends, kittens, Mr. Rogers (who’s quotes have really been getting me through the week), or whatever.

I’m not saying your news feed will be all rainbows and puppies and sunshine tomorrow. In fact, I can promise it won’t be. All I’m saying is, it will be ok. We are stronger than this, and them. We can get through this together.

Here are some, any way. From me, to you.

I hope you don’t think I’m taking any of this lightly. I just wanted you to read something positive, right now.

Stay strong. You look fucking great, today.

Love always,

Chloe Amanda Newsom
