The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

When it comes to pimping out your apartment on a broke-ass budget, have no fear.  You just gotta get creative as fuck. The trick is to balance your obscure oddities with all the other crap you pick up at a thrift shop for a dollar. There are loads of stores and websites with free shipping and shit that will have your place decorated like the fucking Taj Mahal in no time.

#1 FISHS EDDY

Here are the photos from the one-off kitchenwares store, Fishs Eddy, in NYC's Flatiron District. These come courtesy of the store. Ruth Ann Dailey story. New York NYWINTERTRAVEL0118

Looking for fucking sweet-ass dinnerware? Meet Fishs Eddy. Located in the Flatiron District, they also carry boatloads of kitchenware, flatware, glassware and linens. At first glance, you might think this is a bunch of cutesy girly shit. Nope. I mean, check out this mug in their Interventionware Collection that I should drink out of every day…

Or this mug that I totally see sitting in our West Coast Editor/Community Outreach Coordinator Alex Mak‘s office.

#2 REPOP

Want some vintage bad-assery on a budget? Check out RePOP in Williamsburg. This vintage furnishings and oddities shop has everything from lighting to storage furniture, tables to desks, seating, mirrors, signs, and surprises! While most of their furniture and lighting are reasonable for NYC, their oddities are where it’s at. Grab a set of 4 Charley Harper Glasses for forty bucks and a Cast Iron Mermaid Bottle Opener for $20 to go with. Other oddities include coasters, candlesticks, African masks, Abraham Lincoln Bookends – you know just about anything your little decorating heart could desire.

#3 MODCLOTH

Okay, this is totally girly shit. Well, cool girly shit. From prints to frames, kitchenware, bad-ass tea towels and night lights ModCloth has got it going on. If you’re looking for Urban Eclectic Housewares this is the place to shop. They even have an under $20 section that is kind of decorative to die for! What? I’m a girl. I like this crap. If you’re into chachkies and knick knacks–you’ll love ModCloth for all things housewares-quirky, amazing, fun.

#4 DELPHINIUM HOME

Fancy pimping out a bar, a bathroom, or any other room in your house? Stop by Delphinium Home in the Heart of Hell’s Kitchen. They’ve got killer wall clocks, glassware, bath curtains and garden gnomes.

For the Catholic who has one insanely amazing sense of humor, Our Lady Candles – 80’s style…

I’m not Catholic and I would totally burn these in my bedroom.

#5 THE EVERYTHING ELSE STORES

Over the years, I have sought out the best sheets and bedding across the globe. My favorite places to grab stuff on a serious budget: T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s. Both are located in a plethora of locations across the Five Boroughs. What I love about these two store’s everything is a brand name, killer quality and a fraction of the original price. What I like even more: They have clearance sections. Play your cards right and you can pimp out your apartment with designer pillows, wine racks, wine glasses, furniture, wall hangings, laundry baskets, small appliances–even spices to fill the spice rack you’ve always dreamed of!
