7 Delicious IPAs Brewed in NY

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Love a fresh, crisp beer full of hoppy goodness? So do I. Originally brewed to rage the stormy seas from England to India, IPAs are high yielding hoppy beers full of flavor and alcohol! Wanna know what the fuck you should be drinking in New York? Here ya’ go:

Southern Tier 2x

via theperfectlyhappyman.com

My favorite for one reason and one reason only: This double bad boy is like drinking two beers at once. Southern Tier Brewing Company hit the IPA right on the head with this 8.2% little beauty. Talk about a good afternoon beer buzz. I used to cope with working a 9 to 5 by leaving work at 2 p.m. and going to have three of these at my favorite dark, seedy lil’ spot in Brooklyn. What? I appeared to have clocked out at 5 p.m. So, I had enough money for rent and this American Double/Imperial IPA.

Citra

Dear Lord Baby Jesus and peanut butter is the only way to describe this tasty treat. Smooth as mother f’ing Skippy, Citra goes down like a charm. Weighing in at 6.8% ABV, I am in love with this super-fresh New York treat. Why I like it? This single hop IPA, brewed exclusively with citra hops, won’t put your ass on the floor like a lot of Other Half Brewing Company‘s IPAs. Fancy something refreshing on a warm day, this English style IPA is sure to quench your IPA thirst.

Brooklyn East IPA

While I’m usually a huge fan of West Coast IPA, tried, and true New Yorkers are going to love this bangin’ IPA from Brooklyn Brewery. Just like they claim in the advert, Brooklyn East IPA “offers a bold balance, not a smack in the head.”  Coming in at a sweet 6.9% ABV this easily drinkable, bold IPA is just the thing to drink with your vindaloo or something to warm your cold, dead soul after a storm dumps 28 inches of snow in Central Park.

Bengali

One cold winter’s night in Williamsburg, I got through a first date from hell by drinking Bengali. Lots of Bengali. Thank you, Sixpoint Brewery. You can also buy this lovely little can of 6.5% hop filled beer at the worst fucking restaurant chain in the entirety of England for £1.99. So thanks for that too! Come to mention it; you’ve saved my life so many times, you deserve to be on this amazing list – cause you “get me.”  Easy, smooth and full of juicy sass – Bengali is the tits.

Flower Power

My mate rolled into a beer club meeting with this delicious little gem from Ithaca Brewing Company – and hot damn! Winner of Silver Medal – TAP NY 2008 and National IPA Championship Final Four 2008, 2010, 2011…this IPA packs one sincerely American punch! If you love honey, you will adore this 7.5% IPA that goes through one killer hopping process for one big body New York finish!

Puff

For the love of all things rotating beers, some IPAs are so phenomenal the brewery only puts them out on a rotating basis. Dank, delicious and full of nothing but after party – Puff is Sixpoint Brewery‘s hazy little treat that is anything but chilled out. Coming in at a 9.8% ABV, this is one truly unfiltered American Double/Imperial IPA. If you love the quintessential essence of dry-ass hops, then you will love Puff. If you don’t like drinking bong water, you may want to “Puff Puff give, Craig”. Don’t be fuckin’ up the rotation.

All Green Everything

via beerchatter.com

Of course, the mother of all IPAs is brewed in New York. I mean, why wouldn’t it be!? If you’re ready for a booze bomb, this is the IPA for you. Weighing in at a whopping 10.8% ABV, this Other Half Brewing Company treat is a triple IPA packed with four sweet-ass hops. Get ready to set your IPA taste buds on fire with one green, hoppy treat. You may never want to drink anything else ever again. You also may not remember anything after two of these, either.
