FREE Folk Festival This Weekend

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I don’t have a whole lot of time to write up something witty here because I gotta run out and go to work.  So I’ve pretty much just cut and pasted all the info that the fine folks from the festival sent to me.  If you don’t like that I’m doing that, and wanna call me a lazy bastard, well then you’re probably right.  But this does sound like a pretty amazing FREE festival.  Click here to check out their website.

The San Francisco Free Folk Festival

JUNE 13 & 14 at Presidio Middle School ( 450 30th Ave. at Geary) in SF

Daily noon-10pm FREE

I defy your socks not to be knocked by this great line up:

Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum & friends,The Bolos feat. Don Burnham, Go Van Gogh, The Tea Sippers, Misisipi Rider, Caren Armstrong

And the SF Free Folk Festival is about a lot more than just free concerts.

Where else can you:

-learn how to make and play jug band instruments from old junk

-hear and learn Australian sheep shearing songs

-take the kiddies to a puppet show

-learn to Lindy Hop, salsa dance, contra dance, or jig or dozens of other dances

-visit a full stage dedicated to children’s performers

-view an award-winning documentary about pre-mariachi Mexican folk music

-hear amusing and touching songs from the 94-year-old local legend, Faith Petric

-take a harmony singing lesson with bluegrass star, Laurie Lewis

-hear dozens of amazing acts performing everything from Brazilian forro, gypsy jazz and Hawaiian to all sorts of bluegrass and down home roots and singer songwriters?

This is one jam-packed weekend of fun and excitement for all lovers of dance and music. It is also a beautiful cross-section of the abundant and diverse world of acoustic music and dance cultures that make the Bay Area their home.
