Mods vs. Rockers – A Fight to the Death (and Cheap Vinyl)!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Ok, so there isn’t actually a mortal kombat element to this event, but I promise, it is equally as exciting. Every second Wednesday of the month, some seriously cool dudes (DJs Shameless, Carlstone Rocks, Stevie Von Trippin and Older Brother) get together at the Make-Out Room and DJ battle it out Mods vs. Rockers style. In case you aren’t hip to this ongoing feud beginning in the early to mid 1960’s, here’s the deal.  To somewhat vaguely summarize; Mods were the scooter driving, suit wearing, suave kids that listened to The Kinks, and Rockers were the leather wearing, motorcycle riding, tough guys and gals who favored the Stones.  There was some serious hatin’ coming from both sides that sometimes ended in gnarly brawls after shows in places like foggy London towne.  Things aren’t quite so violent these days, but the rivalry lives on!

Next Wednesday Mods vs. Rockers is featuring special guest DJ Yulelog (aka Holiday Hankster) from Open Mind Music, stuffing aural (festive?) chestnuts in (down? up?) your chimney (stocking?).  In other words, he will be spinning his insane Holiday music collection and selling some of the records after (gift idea anyone?).

So, if you’re a mod, rocker, or even a mocker like Ringo, and you have an urge to get some serious boogie on, ride your Vespa or Harley down to the Make-Out next Wednesday.  The dancin is swingin and the drinkin’ is cheap!  Let’s get ready to RUMBLE!!!

Ali was born and raised in the Wholesome/Creepy capital of the world, Salt Lake City, UT. Once she was old enough to blow that pop stand she escaped to the place that was the anti-SLC: The Peoples Gay-public of Drugifornia aka San Francisco (holla 30 Rock!). You can now find her throughout this glorious city slurping Pho and scheming with her best friend Pinky doing what they do every night; try and take over the world.
