A Night of Cartoons, Alcohol Poisoning and Grindin’ on the Dance Floor

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Funny-ass shit.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a little underwhelmed with comedy these days.  Maybe that’s because all the “comedy” I see is reruns of Full House and my douchebag guy friends getting wasted at bars and making entirely played-out jokes about face-sitting.

Enter San Francisco-based Finktoons, a sketch comedy group that has spent the last half year developing a series of animated and live action shorts that’s set to shoot a pilot next month for Adult Swim, which is exciting because it probably means less reruns of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.  Yes, I may be the only person who doesn’t like that stupid meatball thing.

Anyway, Finktoons is hosting its first FREE (but only if you remember to say “Finktoons” at the door) live event this Friday at Element Lounge and will feature performances by the comedy troupe, screenings of old and brand-new shit they’ve created and a most likely seizure-inducing set by DJ Segundo (because you’ll be shaking your ass so vigorously, duh).

Finktoons’ own description of this party — “A night of cartoons, alcohol poisoning and grindin’ on the dance floor” — is probably better than anything I just wrote.  And also ensures I won’t miss this shit.

Finktoons Premiere Party at Element Lounge Friday, June 18, 10pm – 2am 1028 Geary St. (between Polk and US 101) [Civic Center/Tenderloin] FREE (if you say the magic word, “Finktoons,” at the door)

Christy Jovanelly - Cheapskate Commentator

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
