Science is Fun – Free Tour of the Bay Model

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

If you’re not going to Outside Lands, feel like getting out of the city for a spell, and love science, then head over to Saucy-lito this Sunday! The Bay Model Visitor Center is giving a FREE guided tour, and let me tell you what, you won’t want to miss this!

Ok, so maybe it’s not the most exciting thing in the world, but the Bay Model is pretty neat-o in and of itself. It is a working hydraulic model of the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento – San Joaquin River Delta System used by scientists and educators to study the rise and fall of tide, flow, and currents of water, mixing of salt and fresh water, and indicates trends in sediment movement. Fascinating, no?

The model is roughly the size of two football fields and the time scale, running 100 times faster than nature, permits viewers to observe a long sequence of events in a short time period. If you can manage to leave your cool kid hat at the door and slip on your un-ironic nerd glasses, you are sure to have a info-gasmically good time!

Ali was born and raised in the Wholesome/Creepy capital of the world, Salt Lake City, UT. Once she was old enough to blow that pop stand she escaped to the place that was the anti-SLC: The Peoples Gay-public of Drugifornia aka San Francisco (holla 30 Rock!). You can now find her throughout this glorious city slurping Pho and scheming with her best friend Pinky doing what they do every night; try and take over the world.
