Get Your Janky Cheese Tonight at the California Academy of Sciences

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Calling all cheese lovers, wine connoisseurs and freaks of nature! Tonight is your night to shine at the weekly event Nightlife at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Not only can you check out the rad albino crocodile and play in the rain forest inside the museum open after dark  to anyone over 21, you can also get your groove on to super fun DJs while snackin’ on some stinky cheese and sippin’ on some local wine. Cocktails and beer are also for sale at museum prices, so I would advise drinking beforehand if you are low on cash.

Napa Valley winery JAC ONE’s master sommelier Alex Casella will be giving out FREE samples of cheese and pairing them with epic wines. You can learn all about the world of cheese from a talk given by Rainbow Grocery’s Gordon Edgar on becoming a cheesemonger, followed by a book signing of his book,  Cheesemonger: A Life on the Wedge. Cheeses from California and beyond will be available for tasting by:

Harley Farms Goat Cheese
Pt. Reyes Farmstead Cheese
Marin French Cheese Company
Achadinha Cheese Company
Beehive Cheese Company
Bellwether Farms
Sierra Nevada Cheese Company
Laura Chenel’s Chevre
Cypress Grove Chevre
Fiscalini Farmstead Cheese
Nicasio Valley Cheese Company
Tumalo Farms
Redwood Hill

If you happen to be lactose intolerant or just think cheese smells like  feet, you can dance in protest to some hella dirty electronic music live from the Janky Barge DJ Collective. The barge will set sail in the East Pavillion. For those of you who have never seen this amazing art-car/boat, jump on board and shake your booty. You may feel like the whole thing is about to fall apart, but that’s what we love about it.

Note to self: Insurance not include with entry free. Dance at your own risk, so please try not to fall into the Anaconda cage. Ice cube won’t be there to save your broke-ass this time…
