Hard Knox Cafe: Cheap Southern Homestyle Cooking

I’ve yet to come across a joint in San Francisco with tastier, cheaper southern style cooking than Hard Knox Cafe in the Richmond.

Southern homestyle food is probably the last thing that comes to mind when one thinks of San Francisco. That perception is soon to change. Hard Knox offers some of the best food around at a very affordable price.

Let’s start with their fried chicken, which is so good it will make you want to slap yo’ mama. It is fried to perfection with a delicious, tender white meat inside. There is a spicy version as well which, if you like the heat, is even better. Hard Knox offers a number of other dishes as well including country fried steak, BBQ chicken, pork chops, and catfish. I could on for days. What’s more is that all of their entrees are served with cornbread muffins and two sides for a price hovering around ten to twelve bucks. You may think that’s a bit too expensive for your broke ass but I assure you, if you can swing it, a meal at Hard Knox will be the only one of the day. I can’t forget about the beer selection. Hard Knox offers, among others, a great home brew for three bucks and the always wonderful PBR for $2.50.

If you’re in the mood for brunch, this place is a great remedy for last night’s shenanigans. Ultimately, Hard Knox is the perfect place for a meal with friends. The food is damn fine, the atmosphere is mellow, and it won’t burn a hole in your wallet.
