FREE Local Music at Yoshi’s August 20th

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

The good people at Yoshi’s jazz club have started a summer series where they shed a spotlight on local jazz musicians. This Saturday you can enjoy Matthias McIntire on violin and Justin Houchin on guitar. They’re bringing a unique blend of jazz standards and free improvisation to Yoshi’s Saturday night and it won’t cost you one single penny to get in the door. That leaves you plenty of pennies to grab a drink or ten and to enjoy a healthy heap of Yoshi’s killer sushi.

The show starts at 6 and should wrap up around 9 which means you’ll be plenty well rested for church on Sunday morning although I’ve never been to a jazz show that ended at nine and thought, “yeah I’m ready to go to bed now.” If you’re anything like me you’ll be inspired to hit the town and take in some of the other colorful spots just outside Yoshi’s doors.

Click here for a full list of all the events in Yoshi’s Local Talent Series.

You can also catch a sample of what to expect on Saturday night at Justin’s website.

Hugh was born in Boston, but managed to escape to the Bay Area before acquiring that ridiculous accent. Growing up in Marin, Hugh joined the throngs of suburbanites that dream of being rock stars and movie gods only to end up in a well appointed cubicle. Now Hugh lives in San Francisco and casually ignores his environmental studies degree, choosing to write comedy and eat burritos instead.
