Once upon a time I imagined that if I wanted to see places like Berlin, Beijing, Porto and Cape Town on my shoestring budget, I’d be subjected to some pretty harsh conditions…but now  I’ve discovered that on HostelBookers.com they have an awesome page Top 15 Hostels Under €15! You can stay  in dirt-cheap, but fine ass, accommodations where not only do you get clean rooms, friendly service and lots of perks, they’re so conveniently located that you can do your sightseeing on foot or bicycle and splurge on treats instead of transportation!

Check !N Hostel – Berlin, Germany

Seriously, what more could you expect for such a pittance? Not only can you stay smack in the middle of Berlin’s historical center in easy walking distance to Checkpoint Charlie and the Friedrichstraße neighborhood, you get a comfy bed in a smartly designed, freshly painted hostel where the helpful staff appreciate the dilemmas of frugal travelers. Buy meals at their budget-priced café or grab some grub at the next door grocery so you can use the communal kitchen to dish up some grinds. Of course, Wi-Fi is free throughout the facility and there’s a game room and lounge to chill out with other trekkers while watching TV and getting a vending machine sugar rush. Rent a bike from the tour desk and load up the Parcview App to check out Berlin’s abundant green spaces like nearby BesselPark.

Oporto City Hostel – Porto, Portugal

For those who think cheap accommodations never come with full private bathrooms — prepare to stand corrected. Yep, not only does your 15 euros get you roomy quarters complete with a spacious bathroom, private reading light and lockable storage, this refurbished guesthouse is on a quiet street that’s close to everything and even has a reasonably priced airport shuttle. Make your own meals in the communal kitchen or enjoy neighborhood joints like Don Quixote Cafeteria and Confectionery before strolling along Liberdade Square — which is even more interesting with a Porto Landmarks App. It’s a short walk to the Trindade Metro Station where you can take a 15-minute ride to the legendary Vandoma Flea Market held every Saturday.

Beijing Sanlitun Youth Hostel – Chaoyang Beijing, China

Beijing-Sanlitun

If you’re heading to Beijing to party hardy, this hostel’s in the right place for the right price. Along with cheap, clean accommodations complete with goodies like laundry facilities, communal kitchen and free Wi-Fi, you’ll find a friendly multi-lingual staff eager to help you get more bang for your buck in Beijing! Located across from the Beijing Workers Stadium that hosts sports and cultural events, the neighborhood is packed with swanky shops, restaurants and cocktail bars that attract the foreign workers from nearby embassies. Avoid the pricey stuff and walk down Gui Street, otherwise known as Ghost Street, to savor traditional Chinese cuisine in an authentic Chinese atmosphere complete with signature Chinese red lanterns everywhere! Use a Beijing on a Budget app to discover hidden treasures along the way.

A Sunflower Stop – Cape Town, South Africa

Sunflower-Stop

No mistaking this backpacker friendly hostel…its bright yellow walls stand out like a sunflower in a concrete jungle! The cheery motif is echoed on the smiling faces of the staff that cheerfully settle you into their little paradise with an internet café, self-catering facilities, secure lockers, laundry room, swimming pool, car parking and a tours/travel desk. What’s more, you’re in the historic old town, one of the safest parts of town by the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, where the V&A Waterfronts Amphitheater has lively — and often free – entertainment. Use the Walking Tour of Cape Town app to learn the fascinating stories behind this iconic neighborhood.
