Rescue Row: The Officially Official Pet Rescue City Block

Updated: May 22, 2014 12:39
The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I grew up in a house with three indoor cats (two rescued ferals + one neighbor abandoned) and two outdoor ferals. Eventually we also rescued a Golden Labrador, Beau, from the same aforementioned neighbor. They decided to move and leave the dog behind in the front yard with no access to the backyard, where I waited a week before hopping the fence and inviting him to live with us. Now that I live in a tiny apartment in the bay area, my hopes of adopting are slim. But, I have hope…and also my eye on Oliver; a nine-year-old male Hemingway.

SF SPCA, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, Northern California Family Dog Rescue, and Animal Care and Control are all located on the same city block (Alabama Street btw 15th & 16th Streets), where they do a damn fine job at rescuing and rehoming and re-educating the public on what should be common sense knowledge on pet care. On May 6th, 2014 the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to officially recognize the street as Rescue Row. This is the first of its kind in the country, and having so many rescue organizations in one area makes it easy for adopters to find their perfect match!

The Unveiling of Rescue Row happens next Saturday, May 31. The Rescue Row ribbon cutting will also be their official kickoff for Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, May 31 – June 1.

Here’s another opportunity to adopt a loving companion for little to NO COST. As adoption fees will be waived for all animals, all weekend! Give an abandoned/displaced animal a loving home and your god will grant you immediate entrance to your version of an afterlife. I strongly feel that the company of a loving animal can often heal beyond people’s wildest imaginations. Plus, a kitty will love you more and cuddle you longer.
