Patron of the Week: Jeff Desira

Our Patron of the week this time is Jeff Desira. Originally a native of South San Francisco, Jeff has been a songwriter and performer here in San Francisco since 1991. In recent years, his music has been placed in film, and he’s contributed to many organizations in regards to homelessness, suicide prevention, and natural disaster. Currently, he’s recording a new record with producer Chris Manning who’s worked with many artists ranging from Jellyfish, Guster, And Third Eye Blind. Where do you live?: Outer Sunset/Parkside
Occupation: Musician / Telecom / Bike Mechanic
What’s a project you’re working on?: I’m currently working on a 10 song record with Producer Chris Manning.
What’s an accomplishment that you’re really proud of?: A couple years back, three songs off of my last record were placed in a film with a producer at 20th Century Fox.
Best money saving tip: If you ever get crab in Fisherman’s Wharf, get it from the stands outside. If you get it from inside you end up paying twice as much only for an additional small cup of soup you don’t want.
What do you refuse to spend money on?: There’s no way in hell you’ll get me to spend $4 on toast! Never. That and cat food. Heck, I don’t even own any cats.
Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: My first car was a 1976 Ford E-100 van. I actually got it for pretty cheap, but afterwards things kept falling apart and going wrong. On top of gas I must have dumped thousands on that beast.
How’d that feel?: “Oops!”
Favorite cheap eat: I have to travel for it, but Little Lucca’s Deli in South San Francisco has foot longs on Dutch Crunch for like 8 bucks. Totally worth it!
Favorite dive bar: The Riptide!!
Best deal you’ve ever gotten: One time I flew to New York from San Francisco round trip and the airline forgot to bill me. I’m totally serious. I can’t go into how but that actually happened. Pretty sweet, ya?
Favorite free thing to do: I really enjoyed the free monthly museum days in Golden Gate Park. You can look it up online but I think it’s usually the first Monday or Tuesday of the month.
If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: I’d buy a plane ticket to Malta in the Mediterranean for at least a month. Go to Google, type in Malta, and look at the images. That’ll explain why.
One album that everyone should listen to: I really like Andrew Bird’s last record, “Are You Serious”. If you don’t own it, I think you really should.
Best hangover cure: At times nothing seems to work better than a “Hair of the Dog”, but an alternative would be to have a glass of water after every third drink, and to drink a full pint of water before going to sleep.
