The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

When you go on vacation, the last thing you want to do is forget the memories you’ve made. That’s why so many people post pictures from their trips on their Instagram accounts. It’s a fun and easy way to share your experiences with the people you love.

To make sure you get the best shots for your Instagram, check out some of the top bridges in the U.S. You can plan ahead for the timing and angles of your photos so you get the best pictures possible.

1. The Brooklyn Bridge, New York

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most famous bridges New York has to offer. It was completed in 1883 and was the first suspension bridge built with steel instead of iron. Stop by the nearby Brooklyn Bridge Park park for frequent activities and the best place to get a few pictures.

2. Benson Bridge, Multnomah Falls, Oregon

Oregon is known for being a great place to hike, and you should consider a trail that leads to Benson Bridge.

Benson Bridge was built in 1914 and still has its gorgeous original architecture. People tend to take the best pictures of the bridge from the ground below it, but there’s also a waterfall behind it that will make for interesting photos too. Be sure to bring a waterproof cover for your camera or phone.

3. Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco

Who goes to see the Golden Gate Bridge and doesn’t take a picture? Marin Headlands is the ideal spot for a photo of this famous bridge. It’s one of the most Instagrammed landmarks in the world, so you may want to arrive early to get your photo. Sunrise is the perfect time to get a picture, since the sunrise hues will perfectly match the orange aesthetic of the bridge.

4. Royal Gorge Bridge, Canon City, Colorado

Have you ever wanted to feel like you were flying? If you’re vacationing in Colorado, you can experience exactly that without ever leaving the ground. The Royal Gorge Bridge spans a 1,200-foot gorge over 1,000 feet in the air. People visit it every year to take in the amazing sites. The park has photo spots set up around the bridge, so you’ll be sure to get all the best angles.

5. Seven Mile Bridge, Florida Keys, Florida

Although it’s been updated in recent years, the Seven Mile Bridge in Florida was once the eighth wonder of the world. You can still see the original bridge as you drive across the more modern version. It rises above islands and dips right along the waterline for a true adventure. For the best pictures, look for areas you can explore along either end of the bridge, or rent a boat and cruise alongside it.

6. Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge, Croatan Sound, North Carolina

Another great bridge to explore if you want to head somewhere coastal is the Virginia Dare Memorial Bridge. It’s a five-mile architectural wonder that takes you to and through Roanoke Island. Stop to explore the mystery of the lost colony. It’s also a great place to see wildlife in their natural habitat.

7. Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Tampa Bay, Florida

This towering span was built when a freighter crashed into the previous bridge. The governor modeled the Skyway Bridge after ones in France, and after it was completed, it was named after him. Make a pit stop on your next trip to snap a few photos, and then enjoy the experience as you drive over the bridge and into the sky.

8. Mackinac Bridge, St. Ignace, Michigan

The Mackinac Bridge was originally built to be a temporary fix when the popular ferry across the Straits of Mackinac failed in 1957. It ended up being a long-term solution once people saw how much it was used. There’s a state park on the shoreline that’s the perfect place for a photo shoot. Time the natural lighting just right to capture the green hues of the bridge.

9. Bixby Creek Bridge, Big Sur, California

If you want a photo that looks like it’s from another time, you’ll want to see the Bixby Creek Bridge. It was built in 1932 and still has its original design in place. People stop there for photo shoots of all kinds, so think ahead about how to get your own space for a few Instagram-worthy shots.

10. George Washington Bridge, Fort Lee, New Jersey

Sometimes people plan their trips around famous spots they’ve seen in movies. In New York, that’s the George Washington Bridge. It’s a popular span for filmmakers to use as an establishing shot for New York storylines, and it’s the only bridge in the world that has 14 lanes.

There’s something to be said about bridge pictures that make it on Instagram. They’re scenic and have an eerie beauty to them, whether they’re in a bustling city, a forest or out over the water. In the U.S., there are plenty of bridges to choose from that make great Instagram memories.
