As another August in the Bay Area rolls around, get ready for these artsy events, screenings, performances, and the annual return of Outside Lands Music Festival.  Get outside to watch some sort of creative event– there are tons of free concerts happening before the festival, too.

MISSION VOICES OPENING
Southern Exposure’s Mission Voices Summer (MVS) is a FREE four-week intensive summer arts program for youth aged 14-21. Young artists learn to use the visual arts as a tool for expressing ideas, ambitions, and creativity.  The program culminates with a group exhibition featuring the work the youth artists have created throughout the program.

CREATIVE MEAN SF CAMERAWORK
SF Camerawork will be hosting an amazing panel of curators, directors, and producers; celebrating those working behind the scenes and their commitment to our Bay Area community.  The night will feature a discussion with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) curator Susie Kantor, artists and MACRO WAVES collective members Robin Birdd and Dominic Cheng, and director of SF Camerawork Heather Snider.

AGGREGATE ANIMATED SHORTS
Aggregate Space Gallery launches a celebration of non-commercial and experimental animation at the New Parkway Theater in Oakland.  The exhibition will culminate in an award ceremony hosted by artist, animator, and Congratulations Pine Tree co-host, Kate Rhoades.

CONFLUXX CLIMAXX
For two months Royal NoneSuch Gallery will transform into an evolving studio, event space, and exhibition platform for the collaborative network and publication, WHIZ WORLD.  CONFLUXX CLIMAXX: An opening reception for AFTERGLOW DELTA, presents the work created by WHIZ WORLD during their residency at Royal NoneSuch Gallery where an interactive choreography around the Great Basin will be built in the gallery and performed.

FREMONT FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
Check out the 36th Annual Fremont Festival of the Arts, the largest free street-festival in California attracting nearly 400,000 annually.  In addition to art, there will be live bands playing, food trucks, and local crafts makers selling their goods.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION IN THE GALLERY
Practice the art of mindfulness inspired by a work of art on view at The Museum. Guided by Steven Tierney, each session will include an opening discussion, a thirty-minute mindfulness exercise, and a closing reflection. Mindfulness meditation is known to release stress, calm the nervous system, and cultivate compassion.

OUTSIDE LANDS 2019
The Bay Area’s favorite music festival Outside Lands returns to Golden Gate Park on August 9 – 11.  This year’s headliners include Paul Simon, Childish Gambino and Twenty One Pilots.  Although it may be difficult to find tickets, this year’s edition is not to be missed, especially after the announcement of Grass Lands, a new marijuana-themed section of the hyped festival.

ARTIST PORTFOLIO REVIEWS
In this annual artist professional development program, leading curators, art dealers, and educators provide expert advice and insights in a portfolio critique. Each artist participant will have the opportunity to meet with two reviewers for 20 minutes each (chosen during registration.)

A DAVID HOCKNEY MOVIE
