This press release came across my desk so I figured I’d share it with you all. Amy is just one of the eight people running for Mayor of San Francisco in this 2018 special election. This races will be fascinating.

 

Join Mayoral candidate Amy Farah Weiss on January 28th from 1PM-5PM at the SoMa StrEAT food Park (428 11th Street) for a public event to celebrate Weiss’ 41st birthday and launch her Platform for Equity and the Vote 1-2-3 for Equity 2018 ranked-choice voting campaign. All Mayoral candidates and supporters welcome to attend and participate in the spirit of Vote 1-2-3 for Equity.

There will be a scheduled line-up of presentations from members of Weiss’ campaign team and/or subject matter experts on a variety of topics aligned with her efforts to lead San Francisco towards becoming an “Epicenter of Equity”, including Mindfulness education in SFUSD, Vocational opportunities through Hip Hop, Gross National Happiness, Diversity in Big Business/Tech/SF, Scaling up a public broadband/Wifi network, Universal Health Care in SF/CA, Scaling up to 100% Renewable Energy, Tech for Open Source Government, Community-integrated solutions for the tent encampment crisis and more! Andrew Jordan Nance is the founder of Mindful Arts San Francisco, a volunteer based organization that brings mindfulness to K thru 5th grades in SFUSD schools. He will be speaking about his experience, how we can involved, and the importance of social emotional learning in schools.

Della Duncan is the producer of Upstream Podcast and works as a freelance Alternative Economics Consultant, Gross National Happiness Master Trainer, Workshop Facilitator, and faculty of the Economics for Transition Masters at Schumacher College in England. She will be discussing the concept of “Gross National Happiness” and its connection to GDP.

Luna Malbroux, one of KQED’s Women to Watch, is a diversity trainer, comic, writer, and creator of the award winning play, “How to Be A White Man“. Winner of the Comedy Hackday Grand Prize at SF Sketchfest, Luna has made international headlines as the creator of EquiTable, an app that satirically solves the wage gap by creating ‘reparations, one meal at a time.’

Eric Brooks is a grassroots organizer for environmental, social justice, and consumer protection who began his career in the mid 1980s with Ralph Nader’s Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs). Two of the campaigns that he is co-coordinating are the effort to get to 100% local clean energy and transportation in San Francisco and California by 2035, and the new struggle against the Trump administration and big telecom corporations, to build a universal, low cost, high speed, public broadband internet system in the City by 2023.

Marlon Richardson, AKA UnLearn The World, is a New York born and bread EmCee, Educator, Actor, Writer and Community Activist. He’s lived in SF and the Bay Area for 14 years. He is one of the senior instructors with Today’s Future Sound, an Oakland based Non-Profit that teaches Beat Making, DJing and the history of Hip Hop in public schools throughout the Bay Area. In addition to being one of the more active and dynamic EmCees in the Bay Area, he is also the Vice President of the All Tribes San Francisco Chapter of Zulu Nation, which focuses on Community and Political Activism through Hip Hop Culture

David Ernst is the Founder and CEO of United Vote, an online tool that allows voters to engage with current Congressional legislation, hold legislators accountable to their constituents, and use “liquid democracy” technology to allow voters to choose trusted representatives.

Luci Riley is a 25 year beside nurse activist who has worked in underserved communities in Memphis, New Orleans and now Oakland. The first ten years of her career, she worked in Trauma facilities, where she gained intimate knowledge of the struggle vulnerable communities face within a culture of institutionalized racism. She will update us on the progress of SB562 and provide a needs assessment for local activism

Amy Farah Weiss, Mayoral candidate and Founder and Director of the Saint Francis Homelessness Challenge, will be presenting on actionable solutions to the tent encampment and shelter/affordable crisis that can be implemented starting today to transition 1,000 people from the streets into community-integrated Transitional Villages.

Stuart Schuffman, aka Broke-Ass Stuart, is a travel writer, poet, TV host, activist, and general shit-stirrer. His website BrokeAssStuart.com is one of the most influential arts & culture sites in the San Francisco Bay Area and his freelance writing has been featured in Lonely Planet, Conde Nast Traveler, The Bold Italic, Geek.com and too many other outlets to remember. His weekly column, Broke-Ass City, appears every other Thursday in the San Francisco Examiner. Stuart’s writing has been translated into four languages. In 2011 Stuart created and hosted the travel show Young, Broke, and Beautiful on IFC and in 2015 he ran for Mayor of San Francisco and got nearly 20k votes.
