Le Marais Bakery in the Castro Robbed and Vandalized
One of San Francisco’s best French bakeries was broken into and vandalized on Monday evening. Even their industrial safe was stolen!
As a result of this, they are calling upon local and state leaders to step up and fix San Francisco’s property crime issues. According to their Instagram post:
“They took everything from our Castro café last night, even our industrial safe from the basement. @londonbreed @speakerpelosi @gavinnewsom if you cannot protect San Francisco’s small, local, family-owned businesses, how can our city thrive? We are heartbroken. We put so much heart into this location, we take such good care to make it beautiful and serve beautiful food and do our best on every level, and this is just too sad. It happens over and over and nothing changes. Please, San Francisco and California leaders, do more to care for our city and its small businesses. We deserve better. Our communities deserve better. Patrick Ascaso”
Le Marais is like a little piece of France here in the Bay Area. As their website states, “Patrick Ascaso sought to recreate the boulangerie of his childhood in Arpajon, France, opening Le Marais Bakery to San Francisco in July 2013. Our family-owned bistro and bakery serves classic French dishes and pastries made with natural levain and long fermentation, with the very best organic and local ingredients.”

And it’s seriously good. My friend who is born and raised in Paris, tried it when she was visiting and she gave it two enthusiastic thumbs up. I’ve also enjoyed their baked goods many times and Le Marais was even included in our SF Coffee Passport in 2019.
Please help them get back on their feet by visiting one of their three locations or their Grande Crêperie in the Ferry Building.
