Get Ready For The Traffic From Hell As APEC Comes To SF

Heads up! If you’re going to be in San Francisco from November 14th to 18th, you’re in for some major traffic disruptions, thanks to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Here’s the info on the road closures.

First off, Interstate 80, a lifeline for Bay Area commuters, will be closed from November 15th to 17th, between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. each day. That’s some prime commuting time, so you’ll need to find alternative routes during those hours.

Also, a couple of offramps will be out of commission. The Eastbound 4th Street offramp and the Westbound 5th Street off ramp will be closed from November 14th at 5 a.m. until November 17th at 9 p.m. So, if these offramps are your go-to, plan accordingly.

If you’re a frequent user of the far-left lane on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (eastbound) or the far-right lane on the Westbound side, take note. These lanes will also be temporarily closed. And if you enjoy the Bay Bridge’s pedestrian and bike path, keep in mind that controlled access will be in place. You won’t be able to stroll or cycle on it freely during the summit.

Highway 101 won’t be spared either, with closures from November 14th to November 18th. The Northbound Dana Bowers Vista Point offramp will be off-limits, making it tricky for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians to access the point. The Golden Gate Bridge Pedestrian Path on the north side will also be closed during this period.

Now, when it comes to road closures within the city, you’ll need to navigate some obstacles. From November 7th to 18th, several streets will see closures or detours. These include Mission Street, Howard Street, Folsom Street, 4th Street, 3rd Street, Hawthorne Street, New Montgomery Street, Powell Street, Sacramento Street, California Street, Pine Street, Mason Street, and Cushman Street. If these are part of your daily routes, it’s time to rethink your travel plans.

These disruptions and security measures are all in place to ensure the APEC summit runs smoothly. The United States Secret Service has designated specific areas as security zones. This means you might encounter ID checks and potential searches by officials when you’re walking or driving through these zones.

For the cyclists in the crowd, take note that many streets will be off-limits during the summit. You’ll need to follow the detours outlined on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency website.

If you’re going to be in San Francisco during the APEC summit, brace yourself for some road closures, detours, and enhanced security measures. Basically rich people don’t want to get beaten up by you so enjoy your traffic jam.

What? I’m right.
