The Best Handmade Goods From Dickens You Can Shop Now

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Dickens Fair is wrapping in a couple weeks and before it does I want to highlight some of the amazing handmade goods you’d find at the fair. With over 4 acres which have been  transformed into  holiday-themed shops, pubs, stages, and dance halls – there are over 100 small businesses to shop at the fair.

I’ve brought this up a few times, but the handcrafted treasures at Dickens Fair will always top my list of reasons to visit. Here’s a little something you might not know about me yet—my Dad is a potter and has been for my whole life. Consequently, when it comes to craft fairs, I tend to be quite discerning about the level of craftsmanship.

And while I can’t showcase the entirety of the 100 shops from the fair but I’ve picked out a few of my favorites and linked as many of the photos we took during our visits as possible in this round up so you can shop from now whether you’re able to make it over to Dickens or now.

NOTE: Dickens also links to things via their Handmade Marketplace

Live Clay Pottery

What’s so fun about Dickens is you’ll see a wide range of beautiful work within the same category. Live Clay Pottery wowed me with their handbuilt characters and imagination. They are new to the Dicken Fair this year and I look forward to seeing what they bring year after year.

Bellena Bay Pewter

Bellena Bay Pewter

I always love peepin’ what the pewter folks have going on. The tiny little figurines remind me of childhood games of Monopoly with my family. The goblets and beautiful cups are things of beauty.

Professor Prospero’s Creature Caravan

Professor Prospero’s Creature Caravan

This imaginative caravan is filled with little one-of-a-kind creatures that will warm your heart with their silly teef, goofy smiles and creative back stories. Creator Amin al-Jamal is an amazing sculpture and has been creating their fun characters for some time now. When you walk up to their booth you’ll see everyone smiling and talking about the characters they love the most.

Shuttle Creek Weaving

While my Dad is a potter, my Mom is a textile artist. What I love most about Shuttle Creek is that all of their handwoven items are cotton and just so soft and vibrant. They have a loom set out so you can see how they created some of their items – although I did learn that this is their “show loom” and much smaller than the loom they teach or create on.

Katy has lived in The Bay Area since the age of 3. While other kids were attending summer camp & soccer practice, she was raised selling wares at craft shows with her working artist parents and spent vacations in a small 1920s Montana log cabin. This has all given her a unique perspective on the ever-changing texture of San Francisco and the Greater Bay Area. Currently a blend of all that is The Bay Area - she's a web designer at a tech-company, artist and DIY teacher.
