The Hunt Begins: SF’s Transformed into an Interactive Playground with PURSUIT

Mischief, shenanigans and silliness with friends?… count me in! PURSUIT, SF’s newest interactive game, is on through May 27th. If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, I’d suggest you join into the fun and get your start.

Created by 15 friends, PURSUIT posters have been peppered across SF. However, the game went viral after a tweet about the game popped up from local artist Danielle Baskin. The game was officially afoot and more and more people have since joined in. As of this week, thousands have texted for the first clue and over 550 people completed the first clue.

How to play PURSUIT:

It’s easy to get started, you just text (415) 888-9518 for your first clue and that will get the ball rollin’. But if you want to talk with other players, join the Subredit where folks are talking about different known facts and things they’ve sluethed out themselves. Some people thought that it was potentially a scam but after some had started their quest they came back to say it’s all real and it’s also really fun!

“Don’t know who’s behind it, but it’s a well-thought out scavenger hunt. We did the 3 first clues. Lots of people doing it. The first clue is in 20 different locations by your current location (according to someone who talked to the organizers).” – Yoguyblue on Redit

“It’s a real thing! It’s a scavenger hunt. 11 clues over three weeks. We’re working on it now! It’s fun so far!” – revyb

As of now, the organizers are remaining fairly anonymous to keep the fun in the mystery of the game. Clues are sent out every few days and  the silliness is top-notch goof-alert.

“Over two thousand people have signed up, and 350 plus participated in the first weekend” according to our source within the project, who asked only to be identified as the “Chief Shenanigans Officer.” He says “this project is our love letter to San Francisco, a way to remind people that whimsy and weirdness are very much alive here — if you just look in the right places.”

Today my friend and I received the first clue. Without giving too much away, I’ll at least say that that first clue does bring you to an online portal where you can track your progress. Multiple clues have been sent out and the next comes out on Friday. Plenty of time to catch up!

Join in the mischief, shenanigans, and silliness with friends in PURSUIT, San Francisco’s newest interactive game running through May 27th.

Katy has lived in The Bay Area since the age of 3. While other kids were attending summer camp & soccer practice, she was raised selling wares at craft shows with her working artist parents and spent vacations in a small 1920s Montana log cabin. This has all given her a unique perspective on the ever-changing texture of San Francisco and the Greater Bay Area. Currently a blend of all that is The Bay Area - she's a web designer at a tech-company, artist and DIY teacher.
