Olympic Memories

by Vanessa Gil, Arts & Events Editor

Are you caught up in the Olympic fever? The USWNT is doing well in their soccer matches. And it’s great to see so many Stanford alum competing. Nothing compares to the Olympic fever I caught in 1996 during the summer games in Atlanta, Georgia. The Magnificent 7 gymnastics team. Dominique Moceanu’s floor routine to “Devil Goes Down to Georgia.” My parents taping Shannon Miller’s swan song appearance on VHS for me when I was unable to watch it live. It’s all legendary in my mind. So many amazing moments have happened in this year’s game so far, creating those core memories like I have, in the minds of new generations. Go USA! Here’s what else I’m excited for the week of 7/30 and beyond.
