Free Outdoor Fun in NYC this Weekend
When you’re young, broke and beautiful AND living in one of the most expensive cities in the world it can be hard finding entertainment for free. Lucky for you here’s a list of some events going on around the city this weekend that cost no dinero.
FRIDAY MAY 25TH
THE WHITNEY MUSEUM presents QUEER PROTEST: NO IDLE GESTURE
99 Gansevoort St NY, NY |7pm- 10pm
This Friday join The Whitney for a free tour exploring gender, sexuality and LGBTQ perspectives. From current works to pieces dating back to the 1940’s you can enjoy a free tour of American LGBTQ history, from the AIDS crisis to the fight for marriage equality, told through art.
The Whitney offers free tours the last Friday of every month at 7:30pm.
FRIDAY MAY 25TH – MAY 28th
WASHINGTON SQUARE OUTDOOR ART EXHIBIT
Washington Square Park, Greenwich Village | 12-6pm
The Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit (WSOAE) has been around for 85 years and it’s mission is to showcase both known and up and coming artists. This three-day event, on the sidewalks of University Place, showcases over 100 different artists. New York is the epicenter of creativity and this free exhibit lets these artists demonstrate their gifts. You can see everything from original water color paintings to handmade jewelry from sculptures to ceramics. There is something for everyone.
SUNDAY MAY 27th
THE 17TH ANNUAL PASSPORT TO TAIWAN FESTIVAL
Union Square North (17th St. between Park and Broadway) | 12 – 5pm
This Sunday celebrate Taiwanese culture right here in the Big Apple in honor of Taiwanese American Heritage Week. Thousands of New Yorkers will descend upon Union Square to see musicians, artists, crafters and performance artists for the largest Asian American event in New York City. There will sampling of Taiwanese food and children can play with traditional Taiwanese toys. Fun for the whole family.
