San Franciscans Plan to Dance in Face of White Nationalist Rally

The Bay Area is bracing itself for two white nationalist rallies planned to take place in San Francisco and Berkeley August 26th and 27th.  And there are few things more San Franciscan than promoting love and inclusion in the face of ignorance and bigotry.  Some citizens are planning to dance and party in the face of hatred and fear mongering, and they are welcoming you to join.

Checkout “The Mobile Dance Party Counter Rally“, to dance out fascism in the bay!  And if you can’t make the rally but want to help protest these white nationalists anyway, check out this awesome idea to financially dissuade those turkeys from ever showing up again.

“Show the alt-right, white nationalists that SF is the city that knows how; by providing an alternative to hate, confrontation and aggression.
On Saturday, August 26, the white right and their friends will be having a “Freedom Rally” to essentially provoke a violent response and garner attention.

I’m hoping to not play into their hands….

What we have in mind…
US: We bring a mobile, portable FM transmitter and broadcast as many bangin, cheesy, party pop dance athems as you can shake your amazing booty to.

YOU: Dress in your amazing colorful fabulous best AND bring a battery powered boom box. The more boomboxes the more music, the more counter-rally goodness. We’re talking a couple hundred happy people, with a soundsytem in everyone’s hands.

WE: We gather at the Marina Green to kind of get things sorted, get the mood/party started. Then make our way near to Crissy Field to have our own rally. THE POINT IS NOT TO INTERRUPT OR CONFRONT THE WHITE NATIONALIST RALLY, but to provide a nearby, better, inclusive, visible alternative.

Right now we are in the thinking planning stage and looking for friends and allies to join the effort. Share your thoughts and invite your friends.”

I love the idea of dancing to counter hate. I think, though, that it should be AWAY from Crissy Field, i.e. Golden Gate Park. Let’s take the center of attention AWAY from the alt-right.

  • starredstuff

    YES! Anywhere else. Please.

  • Chem37

Hi, i’d like to strongly suggest that the dance party not go anywhere near Crissy Field. Let the alternative be somewhere else – don’t give them even a chance to shout at us – don’t give them our ears, our eyes, or even our presence. They aren’t worth us even acknowledging them by even being close to them. As far as we’re concerned they don’t even exist, and we don’t need to be close to them to allow them even the chance to provoke or insight violence (because that IS what they want and I can’t believe we wouldn’t defend ourselves if that happened, so why play into their hands?)

  • Chem37

    Yes, agreed.

    Quisling. Resist! Confront!

  • Jamie Rosenfield

I love the idea of celebrating diversity and inclusivity but I agree with the others that this about drawing attention away from the hate and focusing on San Francisco’s tradition of acceptance. So much more powerful and impactful to do this elsewhere and leave them rallying with themselves.

Asinine. The alt-right are enemy insurgents. They fly the flags of US enemies. They are traitors and lost their rights as citizens of this country the second they waived confederate and nazi flags. The United States military should be dealing with these traitors and removing their orange leader from OUR White House.

  • I think I’ll go as my screen accurate STAR LORD Cosplay and bring AWESOME MIX Vol. 1 and blast THIS song over and over using my portable speaker. Psst, it’s sun by native Indians. PERFECT.

The Southern Poverty Law Center recommends that any counter-protests to alt-right protests be held a far distance away (see https://www.splcenter.org/20170810/alt-right-campus-what-students-need-know#what-to-say-and-do). Seems like the Castro would be an ideal location for a counter protest. Or Civic Center.

Agree agree agree. Showing up in the north part of the city plays into their hands. A summer of love and inclusion celebration should happen at Dolores or golden gate and draw bigger crowds. No confrontation. No recognition of them or their presence.

I love the fact that my beloved Baghdad-By-The-Bay is going to do what it
does best in the face of ignorance and troubles, throw a party! However
what troubles me is that these groups, which at one time could only be
found within rare and odd literature inside dicey and strange magazine
stores, has now because of the internet garnered greater levels of
membership. However they have recently discovered that their real power
is manifested in “Rallies” where they acquire local, National, and even
International coverage. You have noticed I wager that all of these
Rallies take place in some of the most diverse, educated, and liberal
environments in the US. This is a planned design to focus attention upon
their manifestos and their existence by creating the greatest level of
contention. If they were Rallying in a small mostly White Conservative
town in Northern Idaho, no one would notice they even exist.

The organizerss are taking a close look at safety and security; before choosing the final location.
