FREE MONDAYS Dharma Punx Meditation in Greenpoint

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

“Why yes,” you say, “A free meditation class in Greenpoint is exactly what I was looking for.”

If it wasn’t… get to it post-haste. It just might change your life.

Maybe you’ve been thrown off going to meditation because the idea of sitting through all the dopey pageantry sounds like torture. Yes, torture… like being water boarded… or having to listen to one of your dumbass friends earnestly tell you about “alternative economics.”

If so, then I think you’ve finally met your match. ‘Cause what I’m about to show you ain’t some pretentious turban wearing love-in.

Rather, the FREE class is called Brooklyn Dharma Punx. Sure, it’s based on Buddhism and dharma and all that wacky stuff that I’ve never bothered to look into. But, rather than being a frivolous expedition into Buddhism For Dummies, the Brooklyn Dharma Punx really practice what they preach.

The Theravadan tradition, on which the class is based, is the oldest and most conservative of the Buddhist traditions. Scholars believe it to be the closest to the original teachings of Buddha. So frankly, if you want to achieve spiritual enlightenment, the Theravadan tradition is probably your best bet.

The class is FREE and open to drop-ins.

Every Monday starting at 7:30pm.

Come for the meditation, stay for the spiritual purification.

Going to a rich kid school when you aren't even given an allowance certainly trains you to live large on the cheap. Armed with such expertise, Jules travelled the globe, surviving off of 50 cent beers and 2 dollar meals everywhere from Buenos Aires to Mumbai. Three years ago he returned to the United States, living first in Baltimore while he settled a debt with the IRS, then in Brooklyn where he plays music and writes. He aspires to one day live in a van on N.15th and Kent.
