Here we see the Rev. Cecil Williams holding court at the Glide Legacy Gala, one of the biggest annual charity extravaganzas on the San Francisco social calendar. This year’s Glide Legacy Gala is Saturday, Aug. 4, and the fabulous folks at the Glide Legacy Committee have offered the Broke-Ass community a special 20% off ticket discount link to Saturday’s night’s festivities. It’s particularly important to support Glide at this moment when its mission of outreach and social services is at risk.

“It’s the most highly black-tie optional party of the year,” says Glide Legacy Committee co-chair Emily Cohen. “It’s everything great about San Francisco in one venue, for one evening — amazing food, incredible activists, next-gen leaders, award winning music and the spirit and message of unconditional love that is Glide’s 50-year legacy in S.F.”

Gala attendees will get the luxe food and beverage hook-ups from SKYY Vodka, Lagunitas Brewing Company, Casa Sanchez, The Meatball Bar, Pa’ina, Petit Box, and Farallon, with more to be announced soon.

The Glide Legacy Committee is not the same thing as Glide Memorial Church, but it’s a team of young professionals determined to make sure Glide’s legacy survives.  “The Legacy Committee’s goal is to engage as many young people as possible in the movement and mission of Glide,” Cohen says. “We don’t believe in stepping over the most marginalized among us, we believe in stepping in for them. And we’ve chosen Glide as our vehicle because it reflects the values and spirit that makes this city so beloved.”

“We aren’t made of up of next-gen bloggers whining about the problem of homelessness and poverty as an inconvenience,” she says. “We are made up of next gen people dedicating to doing something about it; dedicated to caring for our fellow community members.”

DJ King Most will rock the decks for Saturday night’s proceedings. It will be a fancy black-tie gala alright, but also helps provide comprehensive services to  San Francisco’s poorest and most marginalized residents.

The 9th annual Glide Legacy Gala is on Saturday, August 4th, from 8pm-Midnight at August Hall. Click here for 20% off tickets!
