This Week’s Events

Tuesday, 3/15

Peach Pit

8:00 pm | The Fillmore, 1805 Geary Boulevard | $26.50

Listen, I know I don’t have the best or most current taste in music – that’s why I put the 21 year-old I work with in charge of the shop’s Spotify account. She’s been playing a lot of Peach Pit radio lately, and I have to say, I made the right call by putting her in charge. Shoegaze-y, jazzy, with a touch of romanticism, this Canadian indie pop band will definitely not disappoint!

CHAI

8:00 pm | Bimbo’s 365 Club, 1025 Columbus Avenue | $20

Japanese quartet CHAI have rejected the concept of cuteness – but they don’t mind if you call their music “neo-kawaii.” With elements of 80s easy listening and vaporwave, mixed with a healthy dose of modern hip hop and pop influences, you can’t stay in a bad mood with the danceable beats of CHAI in your ears!

Wednesday, 3/16

Salim Washington Quintet with Pearl Ubungen

7:30 pm | Bird and Beckett, 653 Chenery Street | $25

Choreographer and activist Pearl Ubungen’s immersive community-based residency exploring the theme of Sacred City: Winter in America is a blend of dance and jazz to inspire and astound. Ubungen dances in the intimate space of Bird & Beckett bookshop to the sounds of the San Francisco ensemble led by saxophonist Salim Washington. Ubungen and Washington mark the transition from winter into spring with this series of performances, culminating in a ritual performance amongst the ruins of Sutro Baths at Lands End, at 6:00 pm on March 20th. Catch them tonight in Glen Park at your new favorite book and record shop!
