A New Talk Radio-ish Show w/ Broke-Ass Stuart & Reverend Lysol Tony-Romeo

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

By Reverend Lysol Tony-Romeo

I’m proud to announce that Broke-Ass Stuart and I will be debuting a new livestream called Don’t Call It San Fran! It’s a natural combination, a journalist and Mayoral candidate teaming up with a drag queen and Reverend of a David Bowie church. What could be more San Francisco than that?

Ok, the deets. The first show will be Wednesday, March 8 at 6pm, and then every other Wednesday after that. The show is on an app called Callin. What’s Callin?  A free livestreaming app with an old-school twist: listeners can use the app to “Call In” (get it? lol) and interact with the hosts!  It’s like talk radio but without the depressing conservative aura.

The app has been around since September 2021 and has slowly been building a following with prominent independent media figures like Katie Halper, Briahna Joy Gray and Aaron Mate. The vibe is pretty great, I’ve been using the app for about 6 months and have seen communities build up around these shows. It’s like interacting with people on the internet, except it’s also an audio conversation, so people aren’t just flaming each other all the time.

Callin is easy to use, you can download it on the App Store and Google Play. Signing up and creating an account is just a few simple steps using your phone or email address. Once you do, make sure to subscribe to Don’t Call it San Fran right here.

Here’s what the app looks like in the App Store

So what’s the goal of the show?  To bring some much needed attention to local news in SF and the Bay in general due to the general crappiness of local corporate media options. It’s also to give everyone who’s been reading BAS for years the ability to interact with him, give him his flowers, ask him questions! We’ll be talking political stuff, cultural stuff, but always local stuff.

Our first guest will be Marke B of 48 Hills, local independent media pillar, DJ, groundbreaking queer co-op member and phenomenal author! We’ll be chatting about the City We Love and you can call in and let us know what’s on your mind! There’s a chat function too if you’re a Millenial or younger and haven’t had a phone conversation in a decade as well!

This may be the start of something good.  Stay tuned and we’ll see y’all on Callin on March 8!

We write for busboys, poets, social workers, students, artists, musicians, magicians, mathematicians, maniacs, yodelers and everyone else out there who wants to enjoy life not as a rich person, but as a real person. Namely, we write for you.

We’re currently looking to expand our author pool. If you’re snarky, know what’s happening in your town, and good at making your fingers type out funny words, then you might be just the person we’re looking for. Email alex@brokeassstuart.com with some writing samples if you're interested. Cheers
