Philz Coffee Moves Their Headquarters to Oakland

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Philz Coffee is relocating its headquarters from San Francisco to Oakland. Previously situated in The Dog Patch neighborhood of San Francisco, The San Francisco Examiner has reported that Philz’s new headquarters will be situated at their roasting plant near The Coliseum in Oakland.

Why the move? Philz CEO, Mahesh Sadarangani, has said that the move was due largely to the company not needing as much space anymore. “Dogpatch has been our home for many years. However, with nearly all of our corporate team fully remote, the existing lease no longer aligned with our needs as a company,” he said in an interview with The Examiner.

The Town is excited to welcome Philz officially to Oakland. On X, Mayor Thao posted, “It’s not just about coffee; it’s about community, and we’re honored that a major local favorite has chosen Oakland as their home.”

Founded 20 years ago, Philz has been a beloved coffee roaster in The Bay since 2003. Their original location on 24th and Folsom closed last fall but they still have 14 locations in SF and only 8 in the entirety of the East Bay. As an Oakland resident who used to live down the street from the original Philz, I’m hopeful that this new move might mean a couple new locations closer to home when I have that craving only a cup of Philz.
