An Entire Block of Interactive Theatre Art on Market Street

The free, block-long interactive art event celebrates Mid-Market’s theatrical heritage, and based on the number of incredible artists they’ve hired, this is going to be an awesome party!

Unstaged is happening the first Thursday of September, October, and November from 4-7p. Live on Mid-Market, bringing a free, interactive, live performance experience with an F Train takeover, live bands & DJs,  buskers and makers, immersive soundscapes, cooking classes, interactive art carts, and drag lip sync onto Market Street between 5th and 6th.

There’s going to live theater art, music, and great food everywhere, the F Train is being transformed into San Francisco’s latest, hottest, and most mobile jazz venue is particularly exciting, hosted by Ifn Whendy with Kiki LA chanteuse, Cameron Washington, Ling Ling Lee and others

At 950 Market you’ve got Barron Scott Levkoff and his troupe of performance artists driving FRISCO STORY TIME MACHINE with Emperor Norton awarding Story Currency for stories of SF-related Kindness & Inspiration. With Baberaham Lincoln, Shiza Minnelli, Charlie Chaplin and other historical characters & interactive sets.

Kat Robichaud & The Darling Misfits will be jamming live and the Vertical Acrobats of BANDALOOP Studios will be swinging from the sides of buildings!

“This isn’t just another activation; it’s a targeted celebration of what makes Mid-Market special—its deep-rooted live performance,” said Steve Gibson, Executive Director of the Mid-Market Foundation. “We’re tapping into the area’s theatrical DNA to create something unique. By focusing on live performance, we’re leaning into Mid-Market’s unique strengths and history.”

Highlights for the inaugural UNSTAGED.

Each event will feature over 20 experiential or immersive performance and art interactions, utilizing over 10,000 square feet of space, including vacant storefronts. Highlights of the inaugural event include:

Vertical Performance by BANDALOOP

Immersive music experiences, including a soundscape by The Living Earth Show and Crystal Mirror Music Experience by The Genie

The Transgender District hosting a Drag Lip Sync Contest in front of the Crazy Horse

Sidewalk cumbia and salsa classes, presented by Psyched Radio

Outdoor performances by Busk it! musicians at the brand new Red Tail Beer & Wine Bar, the Warfield, and Shiekh

Jonathan Carver Moore Gallery will host the opening of Californian Wildflowers, a solo photo exhibition by Pieter Hugo

Mystic Midway presents Frisco Time Machine

A Yum Yams Takeover, including a Ube Cooking Class by Kultivate Labs at Saluhall

Hip-hop class and breakdance battle by All The Way Live


PLUS: a transit takeover is in effect, as the F Train is transformed into San Francisco’s latest, hottest, and most mobile jazz venue, the Hotsy Totsy Club by our friends at Building 180.

UNSTAGED. activates sidewalks and storefronts bringing SF’s entertainment district, Mid-Market, back to it’s historic roots.


Market Street Arts’ commitment to the area extends beyond UNSTAGED. In the past year, through investment from the Office of Mayor London Breed and the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Market Street Arts has:

Facilitated the opening of new creative businesses and activated seven vacant storefronts

Provided paid opportunities for over 100 local artists through various programs and performances

Invested more than $500,000 in initiatives aimed at revitalizing the Mid-Market district
