SF Service Industry Folks Can Now Grab “Know Your Rights” Cards for Coworkers

I got 5000 of these printed and distributed to bars and restaurants all over SF so service industry folks could grab them for their coworkers
After 20+ years working in the service industry I can tell you that it is 100% dependent on immigrant labor. Anyone can see that the US economy would crumble without immigrants…unless you’re in a shitty cult where everyone wears stupid fucking red hats (like how do the people in the Central Valley vote for Trump when the ENTIRETY of the Valley’s economy is dependent on immigrant labor?).
Beyond the terrible fact that our economy needs to exploit immigrant labor to keep itself running (that’s another article for another time), the people who work in our restaurants, bars, hotels, janitorial services, etc are our coworkers and friends. Many have families here, own homes here, and have built lives here. In fact undocumented immigrants pay more in taxes each year than billionaires do. And all that is in danger just because they might not have papers.
It’s upon us to help our undocumented immigrant friends and coworkers, especially if we’re in the service industry, since these are the folks we work with every day.
Many immigrants don’t realize that they still have rights, despite being undocumented. The point of these cards is to tell them what their rights are (in Spanish on one side) and give them something to show to ICE agents (in English on the other side). The grassroots effort to educate folks on their rights seems to be working since Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homen, whined that their raids weren’t very effective in Chicago since too many people knew their rights.
So with that in mind I got 5000 “Know Your Rights” cards printed up and distributed to various bars and restaurants around San Francisco. That way, if you’re in the service industry you can pop by and grab a stack.
Here’s the list:
Nickie’s – 466 Haight St.
Azúcar – 299 9th St.
Matterhorn Restaurant and Bakery – 2323 Van Ness Ave.
The Napper Tandy – 3200 24th St.
Vesuvio – 255 Columbus Ave.
The Willows – 1582 Folsom St.
The Sycamore – 2140 Mission St.
Asiento – 2730 21st St.
Chao Pescao – 272 McAllister St.
Rite Spot Cafe – 2099 Folsom St.
Curio/The Chapel – 775 Valencia St.
So, are you in the service industry? Please stop by one of these places and pick up cards for your coworkers!
I would’ve loved to have them more spread out around SF, but the only way I could make distribution happen was to put them in a centralized place (The Willows) and have people pick up a stack of cards to have at their work place so that other service industry folks could pop by and grab some.
Thank you to all the folks who donated money towards making this happen! We brought in a couple hundred dollars more than needed, so I donated the rest to Immigrant Legal Defense.
If anyone wants to help me do this on a grander level, please reach out!
