FREE: Last Pool Party and Cinebrunch
At the risk of sounding like a jaded before my time geezer, I have not attended any of the free-for all ‘Pool Parties’ this summer. On paper they have everything I like, free music, watching people get killed execution style via dodgeball, beer, and scantily dressed youth. But since having moved from the actual pool location I’ve just always felt overwhelmed. And after hearing stories of porta-potties being overturned so people could bum rush the venue for last week’s Girl Talk show I felt it was dangerously veering into MTV Spring Break territory. But now it’s the end of summer and the last pool party is upon us and both Grizzly Bear AND Beachhouse are playing, I feel my attendance is mandatory. After all how often does one get to see free concerts of this proportion pulled off without Bob Geldof having a hand in it.

If you’re not in the mood to be one with the crowds, take cover in the cool indoors at Le Poisson Rouge for their Cinebrunch screening. If you’re a sucker for old movies and cross-dressing like me, you’ll love Some Like It Hot with the original bubbly blonde Marilyn Monroe, comedic legend Jack Lemmon and old-school hunk Tony Curtis. Despite the name, you won’t find any eggs and coffee here but that doesn’t mean they can’t rustle up a bloody mary at the bar.
