FREE Nick Cave Gives Some Good Reads
At first, I thought there was a weird amount of Nick Cave albums on the jukebox at Holiday Cocktail Lounge (or anything released after 1980). I changed my mind as I watched the late owner (who was over 90) drink from one of the Burger King Lord of the Rings plastic light up glasses when he took a break from tending bar, while I was sitting on a vinyl booth patched up with duct tape. Holiday Cocktail Lounge had the perfect amount of Nick Cave on the jukebox, and other dive bars should do the same. Nick Cave’s gruff voice over heavy cymbals and keyboards is the perfect soundtrack for drinking $4 Jack and Cokes in a dimly lit basement. With lyrics about ghettos and falling into wells, it also makes sense that The Death of Bunny Munro, his second novel, is about a door-to-door salesman who tries to nail any female who answers his sales calls. Tonight, Nick Cave will be reading from the book at Barnes and Noble for FREE, so you can see his bushy mustache in person.
